Arne spent 15 years as an Emergency Medicine doctor before he left to do something about what he kept seeing in his patients. Young people, particularly young men, who were lost. Not unwell in a clinical sense. Unmoored. Without direction, without belonging, without anyone, let alone a community, to guide this rite of passage into adulthood.

Thirty years ago, before boys’ wellbeing was a mainstream conversation, Arne was already running the camps, building the framework, and writing the book that would shape how thousands of families understood their sons. His 2013 book The Making of Men is a bestselling handbook for parents and teachers of boys.

Today, Arne is one of the world’s most respected voices on Rites of Passage. His programs have guided over 450,000 people across 25 countries, partnering with schools, Indigenous communities, corporations, and leading educational institutions. He has completed executive courses at Harvard and Oxford, received the Order of Australia in 2024, and was named Australian Father of the Year in 2025.
